Camden Community Centre - About us

Our Mission

To provide innovative, quality services that encourage participation in community life for individuals thus enriching their lives and the lives of others.

Our Centre is one of the oldest of the many Neighbourhood houses and Community Centres in the Adelaide metropolitan area. Our proud history began in 1975 when a planning committee was formed to look at the best way to utilise the old Camden Primary School site on Carlton Rd and Carlisle St for community use.

Following the school relocation to Penong Avenue in 1977, the Centre commenced activities in a two roomed transportable building on the grounds of Brighton TAFE. Twenty-five years on, with love, sweat, generosity and lots of hard work we are relocated to 7 Carlisle Street Camden Park.

The Centre is proudly owned and operated by the community through its membership and is professionally administered by a Centre Manager assisted by an elected Board of Management.

Camden Community Centre is supported by Grants from State and Federal Governments, The City of West Torrens and public service clubs donations, for which we are most grateful. The Centre owns the buildings and is entirely responsible for their maintenance which makes fundraising an essential area of our work.

Over 60 volunteers support our 22 skilled and devoted part-time staff with the day-to-day operation of our modern multipurpose facilities. Volunteers cook the meals for over 110 HACC clients per week. They also assist with bus driving, building maintenance, staffing the Recycle Cottage and setting up and operating the new Cinema project.

In addition, the Centre utilizes the skills of the over 50’s who participate in the New Start Scheme. Up to 10 participants from this Centrelink scheme work at the Centre in various programs at any one time.

Camden Community Centre, in total, has 50 groups using the Centre facilities on a regular basis and of these 20 groups are members of Camden Community Centre.
